The Millcreek Arts Council and Salt Lake County Millcreek Library are excited to start the new year with a new exhibit at the Millcreek Library at 2266 Evergreen Ave. The artwork of Kandyce Galanis will be displayed through the month of March 1st. A reception will be held at the library from 6-6:45 PM on February 2nd. Please join us for light refreshments and musical accompaniment by Tyler Yentsch.
I am a Millcreek resident living in the Mount Olympus Cove with my Husband, Ian and our 2 sons Louis and Junah.
I was born and raised in the area and found myself back in Utah after college, enjoying the creativity that is always on the move here in SLC.
My style has been described as “bold” and “playful” with its use of maximal vivid color and contrast. The artwork can be anywhere from representational to abstract yet the language of marks remains consistent throughout. I received my BFA in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence and have since created a personal art practice working in painting, collage, photography and sculpture.
I am often found in nature documenting the ever-changing environment as the seasons come and go. My painted and drawn landscapes are ultimately from my imagination but are rooted in a rich catalog of images from time spent looking deeply at the world. My hope is the artwork is experienced with the same moment of simple wonder that I feel while out discovering plants, leaves, rocks and sky.
It is my great pleasure for my art to be viewed by all the young people who pass through the library doors. Art is a beautiful way to connect to ourselves and our community. The pieces on display this month are a simple celebration of using my time to create.
