SUMMARY:Gettin' Visual at the Library with Nancy Schafner
DESCRIPTION:The Millcreek Art Council in collaboration with Millcreek Libra
ry are excited to present Nancy Schafner as August’s Artist showcased in
Getting Visual at the Library. \n\n\nArtist Statement:\nAlmost by accide
nt\, I discovered painting eases my chronic pain. In the spring of 2020\,
I was asked to volunteer by team teaching an online acrylic painting class
for the Millcreek Senior Center. I had experience with artistic painting
in the past but had laid my brushes down for decades. In the process of pr
eparing\, leading\, and participating in the “Love to Paint” class\, I
discovered my pain subsided while being absorbed in the creative process.
Painting continues to provide a therapeutic measure and I am forever grat
eful I picked up my brushes once again!\nNot only is painting good for my
body\, it is good for my soul. Being outdoors and spending time in God’s
creation soothes me. The farther I am from man-made structures and the cl
oser I am to God’s craftsmanship\, the better I feel. In the singing of
the birds\, the whispering of the trees\, and the music of bubbling brooks
 \, we can all still hear His voice. As a line from a favorite hymn says\;
“This is my Father’s world: He shines in all that’s fair\; In the ru
stling grass I hear Him pass\, He speaks to me everywhere.” When I am im
mersed in nature\, I see God’s goodness and power. I feel the symbiosis
of the natural world with all its creatures\; a brilliant and extravagant
place. Utah lacks nothing in diverse\, jaw-dropping scenery. Experiencing
the dramatic and awesome landscapes we have here inspires me. When I spend
time in creation\, I want to create. I want to share the wonder of God’
s creation through my artwork–especially with those who can’t get out
and see it for themselves.\nBiography:\nNancy lives in Salt Lake City\, Ut
ah with her husband\, cat and bunnies. She combines her love of hiking ski
ing and gardening with being creative through her artwork and freelance wr
iting. She has a Master’s degree in Education and a Bachelor of Science
degree in Health\, Physical Education and Recreation with a minor in Art.
She has taught both elementary and secondary school along with being a rea
ltor and certified ski instructor for twenty years.\n\nPlease join us at a
reception celebrating her work Friday\, August 5\, from 6-7 pm along feat
uring musical accompaniment by B.D. Howes.\n\nB.D. Howes is a musician wit
h a history in the intermountain and east coast music scenes. Howes grace
d states along the Wasatch Front for years. He has performed in some of t
he best clubs and restaurants in Salt Lake and Park City. His beautiful m
elodies\, gliding arrangements\, and drift away vocals provide an easy uno
 btrusive listening experience.\n\nEvent sponsors:\nMillcreek City\nMillcre
